Player Pathways
The AFC Rochester Youth Academy operates as a rolling admissions program, meaning there are no formal tryout dates for entry into the Academy.
AFCR Juniors (U6–U7)
Players in the AFCR Juniors program may join throughout the year in 6-week training blocks.
Fall Soccer Entry Point
Our soccer calendar begins with AFC Rochester Fall Soccer, which is open to all players born between 8/1/2017 – 7/31/2021.
For many families, Fall Soccer is the perfect seasonal experience, and players are always encouraged to participate at the level that best fits their goals and interests.
During the Fall Soccer season, players interested in continuing within the Academy structure year-round may be identified for one of the following pathways:
Development Pathway
Players invited into the Development Pathway continue training within the AFCR Academy environment year-round.
This pathway may include:
- U6/U7 Academy Juniors
- Players participating on non-Brighton AFCR travel teams
- Players balancing soccer with other seasonal sports or recreational programs
- Players continuing development while waiting for future team opportunities
Year-Round / Team Play Pathway
Identified U8 and U9 players seeking a more competitive team environment may be invited to participate in:
- Brighton RDYSL Travel Teams
- Pre-Select Combination Tournament Teams
Team placement is based on player readiness, roster availability, and overall fit.
Graduation Pathway
At the U10 level, players graduate from the Academy and are encouraged to try out for:
- AFC Rochester Select Teams
- AFCR Town Teams
- Or both programs depending on their goals and development level
Additional Notes
- New players are welcome to join indoor Academy sessions throughout the winter season at any time.
- During the outdoor summer season, new players are encouraged to participate in local recreational soccer and register for AFC Rochester Fall Soccer as their primary Academy entry point.
