AFCR YOUTH ACADEMY
Building the Foundation for the Future of Soccer
The AFC Rochester Youth Academy is the official starting point for young players ages 5 to 9 to develop the fundamental skills needed for future success in soccer. Replacing the former Brighton fall league, this program offers a structured, age-appropriate pathway for players to grow in a fun, supportive environment.
Led by Coach Dean James, the Youth Academy focuses on technical development, confidence, and a love for the game, while introducing players and families to the AFCR club culture.
Development Philosophy
The AFCR Youth Academy emphasizes:
- Age-appropriate curriculum: Ball mastery, coordination, and small-sided games
- Holistic growth: Confidence, discipline, and teamwork
- Individual attention in a safe, engaging environment
- Progress-based learning, not pressure-based selection
The Player Pathway
Players enter through open sessions, grassroots teams, or community outreach and receive weekly coaching under Coach Dean.
Their journey may progress in a few directions:
- Developing: Continue in academy training with future trial opportunities
- Selected: Join AFC Rochester Select or town-based teams
- Graduates: Move into travel, rec, or premier club soccer
